Learn More About How Our Toluca Lake Dentists Help Patients Relax In The Dentist’s Chair

Written by Dr. McKay on Mar 21, 2017

Our Toluca Lake sedation dentist are here to make dental care as comfortable, stress-free, and accessible as possible for all of our patients. We know that dental anxiety keeps people from getting preventive and restorative dental care—and that’s such a shame. When patients put off treatment due to dental fear or anxiety, they usually end up being forced to deal with more severe and expensive dental issues down the road.

That is why our dentists offer relaxation treatments and therapies to facilitate treatment. Keep reading to learn more about how we put patients at ease.

The first, and most important, thing to do is to develop open and honest communication between the patient and the dentist. We want to make sure that you feel comfortable talking to us about our concerns, so that we can truly be your partners in dental care. Please know that we are never here to judge you or your dental history; we’re here to help!

If you are someone who struggles with dental anxiety, you may benefit from these treatments that we offer:

Nitrous oxide—also called laughing gas, this type of sedation is inhaled by the patient prior to treatment. You’ll likely feel spaced out and even giggly while using nitrous oxide.

Oral conscious sedation—this type of treatment requires only that you take a small sedative pill about an hour before coming in for treatment. Oral conscious sedation has amnesic effects, so you likely won’t remember any of the treatment process once you get home, though you will have been conscious the entire time.

Intravenous (IV) sedation—this type of sedation is reserved for more extensive and invasive dental procedures. While under the effects if IV sedation you will be uncommunicative, and monitored the entire time.

As always, our Toluca Lake sedation dentists are here to give you all of the information you need to make the best decision for your smile. Give our dental team a call to learn more and to schedule your personal consultation!
