Toluca Lake Dentist Answers Your Questions About Innovative DIAGNOdent Technology

Written by Dr. McKay on Jan 15, 2013

Our Toluca Lake dentists are happy to announce that we have incorporated DIAGNOdent technology into our dental practice. This technology allows us to better recognize and diagnose areas of dental decay, so that we can treat these infections promptly and effectively.

Today we are answering some of the question that we receive from patients about DIAGNOdent , so keep reading to get more information!

Q: How does DIAGNOdent find cavities?

A: The DIAGNOdent machine uses a laser to evaluate teeth. When the laser touches the tooth, it measures the amount of laser fluorescence in the tooth. Basically, when the tooth reflects a lot of laser light, that means decay is present in the tooth. The DIAGNOdent laser pinpoints spots of decay that we cannot see with a visual inspection alone.

Q: What are some of the advantages of DIAGNOdent?

A: DIAGNOdent allows our team to spot signs of decay that are not visible to the naked eye. Additionally, this cavity detection method does not expose the patient to radiation, as X-rays do. Plus, DIAGNOdent is totally non-invasive, so it is comfortable and stress-free for the patient.

Q: When would I undergo DIAGNOdent screening?

A: DIAGNOdent is used as part of a regular dental appointment—this tool allows us to better assess the current state of your oral health. At every semi-annual appointment our dental team checks your smile for sings of trouble; the DIAGNOdent laser simply allows us to screen your mouth more completely than ever before. From the results that we get from the DIAGNOdent screening we can recommend further courses of treatment to suit your needs.

Even if it has been awhile since you have been for a professional cleaning, our Toluca Lake dentists encourage you to reach out to our team and schedule a consultation. We can get your smile back on track with state-of-the-art technology.
