Toluca Lake Dentist Discusses The Respective Traits Of Veneers, LUMINEERS, and Dental Bonding

Written by Dr. McKay on Jun 13, 2017

When patients are trying to figure out which dental treatments are right for them, respectively, they consider a number of different factors: treatment timeline, process, costs, and longevity, just to name a few. Our Toluca Lake dentists are here to help with this process by giving our patients the information and support that they need. Today, we are going to be reviewing key attributes of three treatment options in particular, veneers, LUMINEERS, and dental bonding. We hope that this Information helps you assess how dental treatment may be able to help you.

Dental veneers: a veneer is an individual porcelain restoration that is bonded to the patient’s tooth in order to transform the tooth. Veneers are made of porcelain, which is both durable and natural looking once applied to the tooth. Dental veneers are used to achieve a wide variety of dental goals including closing gaps between teeth, whitening the smile, covering damage and irregular enamel, and making the smile appear straighter.

LUMINEERS: LUMINEERS are very similar to veneers in that they are thin, individually-crafted restorations. The thing that sets LUMINEERS apart, however, is that LUMINEERS are crafted from a specific type of porcelain called Cerinate. Cerinate, because it is exceptionally strong, allows LUMINEERS to be even thinner than traditional veneers. This means that LUMINEERS are not very bulky, and not require your dentist to shave away very much dental structure prior to placing the restoration.

Dental bonding: so far we have talked about individual restorations that are bonded to individual teeth; another option, however, is called composite dental bonding. Bonding allows our team to apply custom-shaded composite resin to the tooth, shape it, and then cure it so that it hardens. This is the most affordable of similar treatment options, and it is completed in just one dental appointment.
