There are certain technological advancements in dentistry that push the field forward, and change the way that dentists help people regain happy and healthy smiles: CAD/CAM is a prime example.
Our Toluca Lake CEREC dentists use CAD/CAM to improve our patients’ experiences and make dental treatment faster and more convenient than ever before. Keep reading to learn more about what CAD/CAM is, and how it is used!
First of all, CAD/CAM stands for “computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing,” respectively). This technology helps our dental team craft dental restorations and prosthetics right here in our office.
Here is what the process generally looks like…
- You’ll come into the office and our team will assess the state of your smile, including any specific teeth that need restoring
- Any teeth that require treatment will be prepped—our dentist will remove any infected or damaged material, and shape the tooth for the restoration
- Next, our team will take a scan—also called a digital impression—of your tooth. This digital impression gives us the information that we need in order to mill a restoration to your exact specifications
- We will then input your digital scan into the milling machine, and your crown or dental prosthetic is carved based on that information
- Once the restoration is shaped, it is shaded to match your natural enamel
- Now it’s time to check the fit of your restoration, and make any refinements necessary
- Once everything is perfect, our dentist bonds your restoration to your enamel so that it stays permanently in your smile!
CAD/CAM allows our team to completely restore your tooth in just one appointment. You don’t have to bother with temporary crowns or scheduling multiple appointments.
