Toluca Lake Emergency Dentist Helps Patients Get Through Unexpected Dental Emergencies

Written by Dr. McKay on Oct 4, 2016

Dental traumas and emergencies can occur at any time, which is why our Toluca Lake dentists provide a range of services and treatments to help patients overcome these issues. Today we are going to be discussing some things to keep in mind when dealing with a dental emergency. Let’s get started!

1. Timely Treatment Is Critical

The sooner that you can see your dentist for treatment post-trauma, the better your prognosis. If you lose a tooth, for example, you’ll have the best chance of successfully reinserting the tooth into the socket within an hour or two of damage. Talk to your dental team about how to best contact them in an emergency.

2. Preserve Your Teeth and Oral Tissues

In order to keep a dislodged tooth viable for as long possible, try to gently place it back into its spot along your gum line—if it does not fit comfortably, you can place it in a glass of milk until you get to your dentist’s office. If you are in pain, you can numb your tooth by placing an ice pack on your cheek or jaw. It is important, however, that you do not apply a medication or numbing agent directly to your oral tissues, as this can lead to further damage.

3. Collaborate with Your Dentist

If you experience a dental trauma, or have a persistent toothache, contact your dental team to determine whether you require further treatment. The last thing that you want to do is to allow dental trauma to persist and worsen over time.
